Hazel Yates Akers, 74 years of age, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, August 4, 2025.

Hazel was born February 3, 1951 to Bob and Lois Yates of Prentiss, MS. She was employed for 45 years as an accountant with Ergon. She was a faithful member of Meadow Grove Baptist Church.

Hazel enjoyed spending time with her family and especially watching her grandson, Brody, play baseball. She loved her family and was most proud of her son and the family he created.

She is survived by her husband Herb Akers; son, Jim Roberts (Dixie) of Yazoo City; grandchildren, Brody Roberts, Tate Potter (AnnaCole) and Lanie Potter of Yazoo City; great-grandchild, Hamp Potter; siblings, Gerald Yates of Brandon, MS; and Hilda Yates Hester of Texas.

Hazel is preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Lois Yates; siblings, Joe Yates, Doris Yates, Kenneth Yates, Irene Thompson, and Larue Yates.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. with a Celebration of Life at 10:00 a.m. at Wright and Fergson Funeral Home in Flowood, MS. Interment will follow at Crestview Memorial Gardens in Brandon. Pallbearers will be Brody Roberts; Tate Potter, Chip Heidel, Rusty Yates, Ray Harper and Bert Wallace.
