Obituary

Harold William Hammond, born on September 26, 1948, in Frankfurt Germany, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on February 9, 2025, at VA Hospital in Jackson, MS from complications of Parkinson's Disease. He was the beloved husband of Mary Faye Hammond for over 16 wonderful years.

Bill, as he was affectionately known, was a blessing in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him. He never complained following his diagnosis and faced it with dignity and courage. His focus was always on the welfare of his wife and his family. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the way it was lived, and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Faye, son Jason Paul Hammond, sister Sharon Kay Bayard (Dale), stepchildren Billy Tilghman (Traci), Melanie Sutterfield, Heather Tudor (Todd), Stephen Tilghman and Leah Pinnix as well as 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Douglas "Doug" Anthony Hammond and his parents, Harold Lloyd and Magdalene Hammond.

He was raised in Columbia, MS. After his graduation from Columbia High School, Bill joined the United States Army in June 1968.  After serving his country in Vietnam he returned to Mississippi in July 1971 and worked for UPS until his retirement.

Those who knew Bill will remember him for his love of family, zest for life, infectious smile, willingness to help others and his deep-rooted faith in Jesus. He will also be remembered for making the most delicious homemade ice cream at all family gatherings!

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and all staff at VA Hospital in Jackson, MS for their exceptional compassion, love and care, not only to Bill but to his family as well. It will never be forgotten. We are humbled by their commitment to honor all veterans in every way.

Graveside service will be held February 14, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. immediately followed by a Celebration of Life ceremony. Chapel Hill Baptist Church, 1126 Boyd Rd., Utica, MS.‍

Although Bill's physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May his memory be a blessing, and may we carry forth his legacy of love and compassion in all that we do. As you continue to worship Jesus up there, dear Bill, your light will forever shine brightly in our hearts.
