Obituary

Grover Lynn Jackson passed away peacefully on January 2, 2023 after a long series of health issues and a brief acute illness.  He was a wonderful spouse, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to many who served his country and fellow man.  He was stubborn yet supportive.

"Groove" was born in Natchez in 1947 to Grover Cleveland and Myrtle Freeman Jackson, to be followed by sisters Henrietta and Janice and baby brother Gary Wayne, all of whom survive him today.  He attended Natchez High School and married Marcia Mingee, his spouse of 55 years.  A tour with the US Army during the Vietnam War gave him the status of proud veteran.

Two sons, Chris and Shane, have added 4 grandchildren to the family – Jessica, Nicholas, Kimberly, and Matthew – and now two great grandchildren, Hadleigh and Madilyn.  There are numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews who will remember countless family reunions and holidays the families spent together.

An avid sportsman in the wilds of southwest Mississippi, Lynn worked 45 years in the lumber and hardware business, where any customer or wayward stranger was very likely to be reveled with stories, which were at least partly true.  Many of these stories involved his brother-in-law, Jim Dennis, who can still tell them.

A Memorial Service will be held at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at 2:00pm.

The family would like to thank the medical teams at Baptist Medical Center for their compassion and care throughout the last few years and especially the last week.  In lieu of flowers or gifts, please make any memorials directly to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
