Garry
Miller
July 17, 1957 – August 19, 2022
Garry W. Miller, Sr., 65, Brandon, Mississippi passed away on August 19, 2022. He was born on July 17, 1957 in Jackson, Mississippi to Jerry and Ruth Miller.
Garry was a devoted, loving husband to Barbara Burney Miller for 45 years. They met in 1977 at a CB radio dance and married a few months later. He was our beloved Pops, Dad, and Poppa. As much as he was proud of his family, we were more proud of him. Garry was a pillar of strength and honesty. He retired from the City of Flowood as the Public Works Director for 38 years. If he could possibly love anything as much as his family, it was his city and community. He served on the Hinds Rankin Flood Control board and West Rankin Flood Control as Executive Director and Secretary/Treasurer. His life's work cannot be summed up in a few words.
After retiring from the City of Flowood, he spent his time with his family, biking, and traveling. His favorite role was Poppa to his five grandchildren.
Garry is survived by his wife, Barbara, and his two children, Jennifer(Bobby) Robertson and Garry(Blane) Miller. Five grandchildren, Cason and Mackenzi Robertson, Nicholas, Carlise and Porter Miller. Siblings, Michael Miller, Steve(Melissa) Miller, Terrie(Larry) Sartin, Kevin(Denise) Miller. Sister-in-law, Patsy Smith, niece Lisa Mason Williamson, Charlie and Jacob. Along with nieces and nephews, he had a large host of friends that he loved as family would.
Garry was preceded by his parents, Jerry and Ruth Miller, Thurman and Inez Miller, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Plez and Christine Burney. Along with his cherished labrador, Delta.
Visitation will be held at Wright and Ferguson in Flowood, MS on Sunday, August 21, from 2-5 p.m. The memorial service and life celebration will be on Monday, August 22 at Liberty Baptist Church, Flowood, MS at 11:00 a.m. with a brief visitation at 10:00 a.m. Brother John Cofer will be officiating the service. His final resting place will be at Lakeland Place Garden Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Casey Hunt, Justin Miller, Jay Sturdivant, Dusty Rhoads, David Smith, Charlie Williamson and Honorary Pallbearer, Matt Wood.
Memorial donations can be made to Liberty Baptist Church, Building or General Fund.
