Florence Katherine Scanlon passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2020 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi at the age of 97. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas A. Scanlon, Mother Frances Figulski, Father Stephen Zolenski (Rose), Sister Eleanor Wnuk, Sister Lillian Miester, Daughter Melanie Blackstock (Charles) and Son William "Bill" Scanlon.
Florence is survived by Son Thomas Scanlon (Lynda), Son John Scanlon (Sarita), Son James Scanlon (Holly), Son Peter Scanlon (Tonya) as well as 19 Grandchildren and 26 Great Grandchildren. Prior to becoming a wife and mother, Florence served in the U.S. Navy becoming a WAVE working on battle damaged fighter planes.
Florence lived a long and fulfilling life. After raising her children and retiring from a career in sales, she decided to spend the next chapter of her life seeing new places and meeting new people becoming a Tour Director. She spent several years traveling to various locations all over the United States as well as Brazil and Europe. When Florence wasn't traveling to distant locations or spending time with her children and grandchildren she spent much of her free time volunteering in her local hospitals and museums.
Florence will be deeply missed by all those that new and loved her. In her 97 years on earth she lived life to the very fullest learning new things, traveling to new places and most importantly meeting new people. Those that had the pleasure of meeting Florence knew immediately that they had met a friend.
Visitation will be held on Sunday December 13, 2020 from 5pm-7pm at Wright-Ferguson Funeral home in Flowood, Mississippi. Funeral Services will be held at Wright-Ferguson Funeral Home on Monday, December 14, 2020 in Flowood, Mississippi at 11:00am with interment to follow at Natchez Trace Memorial Park in Madison, Mississippi.
