Obituary

Edwina (Eddie) Barr Nichols, age 99, passed away on January 21, 2024, at the Mississippi Care of Morton, MS where she had resided since September 2022.  Visitation will be 9:30 a.m., January 25, 2024 at Morrison Heights Baptist Church, Clinton, MS with her "Homegoing Celebration" immediately following at 11:00.  A graveside service will be at the Mississippi Veteran's Cemetery, Newton, MS on Monday, January 29, at 1:00 p.m.  Our family invites you to join us in celebrating her love of God in Christ and His living in and through her life.
Our mom was born at home December 25, 1924 in Magee, MS to Guy L. and Ulma Bounds Barr of Magee.  She was the oldest of nine children.  She married the love of her life, Mancil Herman (Nick) Nichols, who preceded her in death in 2012. They were married almost 67 years.  Mom and Dad lived in Vicksburg, MS from 1945 to 1996 and were active members of First Baptist Church.  After moving to Clinton in 1996, Morrison Heights Baptist Church became their church home where they were involved in numerous activities.  Mom was thankful for her relationship with her Savior, Jesus Christ, and wanted to share her faith with everyone.  With her outgoing personality, Mom enjoyed making new friends and loved being with them.  She also loved being in her yard.  For several years the local garden clubs in Vicksburg awarded her and Dad the "Yard of the Month."
Mom deeply loved her family and is survived by one son, Robin Nichols (Jane) of Brandon, MS and two daughters, Cherri Tunstall (Charlie) of Charleston, SC and Tina Smith (Kevin) of Birmingham, AL.  She was known as "Grannie" to six grandchildren:  Matt Tunstall (Angie), Chaille Spittle (Frank), Nathan Nichols (Nicki), Andrew Nichols (Amy), Jase Conway (Kate), and Katie Conway (Steve Compton).  Her thirteen great grandchildren affectionally called her "Gigi."  She is also survived by two brothers, Guy L. Barr, Jr (Loura) of Monroe, LA and Don R. Barr (Vickie) of Fosters, AL, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
Our family is deeply grateful to the staff and members of Morrison Heights Baptist Church for their genuine Christian love, the Mississippi Care Center of Morton for their skills and their loving care, and Gentiva Hospice for their support with dignity.   During her first months in Morton, she made friends with most of the residents and staff.  Their relationships deepened during her stay there even when she wasn't as mobile.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Morrison Heights Baptist Church, 3000 Hampstead Blvd., Clinton, MS 39056 or The Baptist Children's Village, P. O. Box 27, Clinton, MS  39056 (online giving can be made at baptistchildrensvillage.com).
