Edward Sterling French, Jr., 77, of Brandon, MS died on January 15, 2018 at the Baptist Medical
Center in Jackson, MS.
He was born in Jackson at the old Jackson Infirmary on President Street on September 16, 1940 to Edward Sterling French, Sr., and Myrtis Searcy French. Ed, a 1959 graduate of Central High School in Jackson, attended Hinds Junior College following graduation. His National Guard unit, the 114th Military Police, was called up for active service during the Berlin Crisis and left for duty at Ft. Gordon, GA in October 1961. Upon his return he attended and graduated from Mississippi College. Ed retired from Plastic Supply Company in 2004.
On February 24, 1966 Ed married his beloved wife, Paulette Hunt French, with whom he shared many interests, including genealogy research, Jackson history, and travel in the states, the British Isles, and Europe. He especially enjoyed writing about their extensive travels in the British Isles and Europe. A book of these stories is scheduled to be published early this year. In addition to being a skilled woodcraftsman, he enjoyed reading, collecting coins, and gardening.
Ed is survived by his wife; cousins Danny Mize of Spring, TX and Larry Mize of Gluckstadt, MS;
brother-in- laws Dr. Rodney Hunt of Jackson, Dr. Glenn Hunt of Oxford, and Kim Hunt of Brandon; niece, Natalie Towery of Mountain Brook, AL and nephews, Dr. Kyle Hunt of Brandon, Will Hunt and Clark Hunt of Oxford.
At the request of the deceased, no memorial service will be held following cremation. Following his wife's death, their ashes will be buried together in the French family plot at Greenwood Cemetery in Jackson. Memorials may be made to the Greenwood Cemetery Association, P.O.
