Services for Edith Sharon Nettles of Jackson are 11 a.m., Tuesday, February 15 at Union Primitive Baptist Church in Ruth with burial in the church cemetery. Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Flowood is overseeing the arrangements.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. at Wright and Ferguson, Flowood on Monday. On Tuesday, visitation from 9-11 at the church in Ruth, Mississippi.
Mrs. Nettles, 79, died Saturday morning, February 12, 2022, at her home in Jackson surrounded by her family.
She was a native of Lawrence County and a longtime resident of Jackson. She received her Bachelor's Degree from Belhaven College and received her certification in Paralegal Studies from the University of Mississippi.
Mrs. Nettles was a past member of the St. Dominic's Auxiliary, and an active member of many historical, genealogical, and service societies. She was a very active member of the Fort Rosalie Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. She served in many capacities on the National, State, and Chapter levels of the Society such as Honorary State Regent, MSSDAR, Past Chairman of the Rosalie Governing Board, MSSDAR, and Past President of the National Chairmans' Association, NSDAR.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Josie Lanell Day Cothern and Elton Guy Cothern; brother, Jackie Cothern; and the love of her life, Dexter Conley Nettles, M.D.
She is survived by her three children, Dexter C. Nettles, Jr. (Dianne), Tammy Nettles Sylvester (Tandy), and Jennifer Nettles Miller (Jimmy); seven beloved grandchildren, Amanda Nettles Johnson (Jay), Dexter C. Nettles, III (Katie), Mallory Nettles, Joseph Sylvester (Kara), Erin Sylvester, Matthew Sylvester, and Katie Sylvester; her great-grandchildren, whom she loved beyond measure, Millie, Everett, Anna Jay, Lydia, Lee, Chartres, Olive, and Zoey Sharon; her brother Danny Cothern (June); and a multitude of treasured aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins.
