Eddie
Maloney
November 8, 1950 – May 18, 2022
Edward Charles "Eddie" Maloney, 71, passed away peacefully after a short illness on May 18, 2022, in Jackson, Mississippi, surrounded by his loving family.
Eddie is survived by his wife Rhoda; his daughters Lindsey (Kevin) O'Connell of Ocean Springs, MS and their daughters Dolly and Colby Anne; Leigh Anne (Bobby) Coleman of Madison, MS and their sons Jonathan, Bo and Smith; and Kelly Maloney of Madison, MS and her daughter Radley Nations; his brothers and business partners Con (Betty) and Johnny (Sharon) Maloney and sister Bridget Maloney Fielder, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents J.C. "Cowboy" Maloney and Dolly Schimpf Maloney.
Eddie was born on November 8, 1950, in Jackson, MS. He graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School ('68) and The University of Mississippi ('72).
Eddie Maloney is a legacy. A legacy that lives on through his love of over 50 years, Rhoda. And that legacy is clearly espoused in his daughters Lindsey, Leigh Anne, and Kelly, his grandchildren, those who loved him, and those who knew him. He was steady…in his faith, his family, his businesses, and of course, his love for the Ole Miss Rebels. He loved quietly. Yet, his eyes and smile said it all. Never seeking to be the center of attention (unless he was singing Brown(Blue)-Eyed Girl to Rhoda), his quick wit and calm demeanor were recognized, literally, worldwide.
Eddie had many accomplishments in life, but God, Rhoda, and his girls were his passion.
Eddie, a proud graduate of The University of Mississippi and a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity went on to become the President and CEO of Cowboy Maloney's Electric City. Eddie along with his siblings, grew Cowboy Maloney's from a 2 store appliance dealer to a 13 store enterprise selling appliances, electronics, and furniture. Eddie was intentional with providing the best customer service and loyalty. He ran a family business, and Eddie felt every associate was a member of his own family, and he treated them as if they were.
Eddie was a pillar of the community. He served as Chairman of the Greater Jackson Chamber Partnership, President of the Country Club of Jackson, President of Jackson Preparatory School Board, and many others. His love of Jackson and Mississippi were known and felt by all.
Eddie and his wife Rhoda are longtime members of St. Richard's Catholic Church and because of his devotion to his faith, he served St. Dominic's Hospital Foundation, St. Catherine Village Foundation, and Hospice Ministries, Inc.
While his family and faith were Eddie's passions, baseball and the University of Mississippi were his pleasures.
His love of baseball started young and baseball remained an enormous part of his life. As a co-owner of the Jackson Mets and later the Jackson Generals, Eddie spent countless hot summer nights supporting young players as they pursued their dreams of playing in the 'Bigs'. When the Jackson Generals were acquired by Nolan Ryan and Ryan-Sanders Baseball LP, he was invited to be a partner, a testament to his character and business acumen.
Even before being selected as the president of the Ole Miss Alumni Association, Eddie was a loyal Ole Miss fan and proudly wore his red and blue across the world, never passing up the opportunity to talk about the University and invite a new friend to campus. He joyfully showed them every blade of grass in the Grove and introduced them to anyone and everyone who crossed their path. When asked how he so passionately loved his Rebels, intently watching every play, yet never losing his cool or criticizing the institution's decisions, Eddie said, "I used to, but one day during a football game something tragic happened and I realized, that at the end of the day, there are much greater things in life than sports."
And that was Eddie. Steady, calmly passionate, and fiercely loyal.
Visitation with the family will be held at St. Richard's Catholic Church in Jackson, MS on June 2, 2022 from 10 AM-12 PM with a funeral mass to follow. A celebration of Eddie's life and accomplishments will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice Ministries, Inc. or St. Richard's Special Kids Program in memory of their beloved EC.
