Eddie
Harrington
October 31, 1942 – July 23, 2024
Francis Edward (Eddie) Harrington, Jr., of Jackson, MS, died peacefully at his home on July 23, 2024, with Jeanie, his wife of 20 years, by his side. After suffering a stroke in November of 2023 and experiencing paralysis on the left side of his body, the changes in his life left him bed bound.
"The sweetest man in the world" was born in Hazlehurst, MS, Oct. 31, 1942. He is preceded in death by his parents Francis E. Harrington, Sr. and Greanville (Pounds) Harrington. Eddie graduated in 1960 from Provine High School, followed by graduation from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Eddie maintained contact with alumni from his high school and started a monthly lunch meeting allowing all the classmates to keep in touch and be there for each other over time. It's amazing to know they still meet on the third Thursday of each month.
Eddie spent the majority of his work career in the transportation industry in both management and sales. Even in retirement, he continued his trucking career with MTI as an inspector of damaged cargo. He was well-respected in his chosen industry and maintained contact with many of his colleagues.
Fishing was Eddie's greatest joy, becoming much more than a hobby. He and his Harrington cousins gathered at a family reunion in their early retirement years and have shared many more years of truths and lies around the fish camp. A special ceremony is planned to spread Eddie's ashes at The Harrington Hole in the Louisiana marsh east of the MS River. Eddie chose to bless that particular hole with his ashes in thanks for many years of successful fishing in that spot!
His other passion was golf. An active member of Christ United Jackson, he served on the Board of Directors for the Golf Tournament benefitting the Ministerial Scholarship Fund. Eddie joined Christ United in 2005, and was a loyal member of the New Yorkers Sunday School class and served as its President in 2019.
Eddie never met a stranger, and those who met him always remembered him. That characteristic of loving kindness was his life's signature.
Eddie is survived by his wife, Jean Benton Harrington; sister, Nancy Schear (Rob); daughter, Lisa Arrasmith of Vancouver, Washington; son, Patrick Harrington (Natalie) of Millbrook, Alabama; grandchildren, Kaitlin, Baylee, and Kaleb; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Claire, and Asher; and puppies, Arlo and Rutro.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eddie's name to Christ United Jackson or Christ United's Ministerial Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament.
