Elizabeth Jane Alexander Kelly, a Vicksburg native and Raymond resident, died July 6, 2015, after a brief stay at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland.
After earning her Doctorate in psychology from Mississippi State University, Jane moved to Raymond, where she taught psychology at Hinds Community College for more than 40 years. A true nature lover, Jane loved fishing in the pond on her rural Raymond property and taking long walks in the woods there. Jane was also a gifted author, illustrator and artist, publishing a children's book called "Have You Ever Apologized to a Spider?" in 2014, and creating numerous watercolor portraits of the landscapes she held so dear.
Jane is survived by her husband, Lamar "Sonny" Kelly, Jr.; her sister, Gail Alexander (Joe) Buzhardt, and brothers Bill Alexander, Jr. and Joel Alexander; her children, Elizabeth Turner (Marty) Cox, Ginger Turner (Danny) Robbins and John Turner; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will take place from 5:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday, July 8, at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home, 201 Hinds Blvd. in Raymond. Visitation will also be held from 9:30-10:30 AM at Raymond United Methodist Church on Thursday, July 9, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 AM. Jane has requested that her ashes be scattered in perhaps her favorite place on Earth–the pond next to her home – surrounded by her family.
