Obituary

Dorothy Ann Perkins Mente, born on January 17, 1939, in Collins, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, MS on Wednesday morning at 6:45 AM on Feb 5 2025. She graduated from high school in 1957 in Canton, Mississippi. Later in her life, she spent over 30 years in Punta Gorda, Florida, where she enjoyed a fulfilling career at Publix grocery. After retiring, she returned to Mississippi to be closer to her family.

Ann was predeceased by her husband, Michael Mente and her son Roy Barnett. She is survived by her daughter; Sandy Myers (Van); one granddaughter, Jessica Welch; one grandson, Hunter Martin (Alyssa); one adopted grandson, Willie Jordan; two brothers, Ken Perkins (Margaret) of Brandon, MS and David Perkins (Carolyn) of Arlington, TX; four sisters, Faye Reeves (Maynard) of Midlothian, TX, Bobbie Yarbrough of Irving, TX, Katherine Strickland of Plano, TX and Margie Townsend of Philadelphia, MS; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

Ann had a deep passion for gardening. She had a sincere love and compassion for all people. Her colorful sense of humor and genuine warmth rewarded her with many lifelong friends. She rarely met a stranger and had a natural ease about her that gave her the ability to make people smile and laugh. Everyone she met was touched by her on some level or another.

Ann held a personal, strong Faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ where, by His promise, she is, at this present time dwelling in His presence, never to suffer hardship again for all of eternity.  She has fought the Good Fight of Faith and now her purpose has been fulfilled. As the Apostle Paul wrote; therefore comfort one another with these words.

As per Ann's wishes, a graveside service will be held. Service time is 10 am on Saturday February 8th at Bolton cemetery. Your presence would be a privilege for the family and an honor to the memory of Ann.

Ann will be deeply missed by those of us that had the blessing of knowing her.
