Obituary

Dorothy "Dotty" Jean McGee, 77, of Madison, MS, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2025.

Born on November 30, 1947, in Memphis, TN, Dotty was the middle of three children born to Lowry and Martha Martin. She attended Overton High School and had a career in medical administration.

Dotty was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She married her high school sweetheart, Doug McGee, in 1965, and together they built a home filled of warmth and friendship. She was a talented baker known for beautifully decorated cakes and an exceptional seamstress who was accomplished in nearly every form of sewing.

Dotty's greatest joy came from time spent at the sewing machine. She created intricate and masterful projects ranging from quilts to English smocking, to embroidery, to children's and ladies clothing. Friends and family remember her creativity with a needle, her joyful spirit, and unwavering kindness.

Dotty is survived by her husband of 59 years, Doug; their two children, Elizabeth "Lisa" Lee McGee Teagarden (Scott Anderson), and J.D. McGee; two beloved grandchildren, Benjamin and Catherine; her sister, Margo Muhr; and her brother, James Martin. She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Laura Ann McGee.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2025 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Flowood, MS. Graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Memphis Memory Gardens in Memphis, TN. Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home of Flowood is in charge of arrangements. 601-664-0073.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in her memory.
