Doris Ann
Cheatham Whiddon
August 15, 1949 – July 6, 2022
Doris Ann Cheatham Whiddon, passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2022 in Marshalltown, Iowa at the age of 72. Doris Ann was born August 15, 1949 in Jackson MS, to James Newton Cheatham and Doris Mae Burney. She grew up in Jackson MS and attended college at Mississippi College in Clinton MS where she met her husband, Michael Foster Whiddon. They were married in 1969 and had two children, Michelle and Mike. She received a bachelor's degree from the university of Southern MS with a degree in teaching. She stayed home to raise her children but eventually went back to school and earned a master's degree from Iowa State University in Counseling and Family Therapy.
Although Doris Ann contracted Polio at a young age, she never let it stop her from living a full life. She was determined to have independence and lived her life on her own terms. Her parents got her a car with a special handbrake so she could drive. She rode a bike, snow skied and even went parasailing. She loved to travel and was always trying to figure out a way to get back to Disney World, her favorite place on earth. She was also an avid "hobbyist," whether sewing, crocheting, scrapbooking or trying the newest craft. She loved people and easily engaged them with her smile and quit wit.
Doris Ann is survived by her daughter Michelle Telg Moore and Tim Moore of Waco, Texas; her son Mike Whiddon and Rae Whiddon of Des Moines, Iowa; her grandchildren, who knew her as Nana, Kevin & Kyle Telg of Waco, Texas; her brother Robert Cheatham of Ridgeland, MS; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Michael Foster Whiddon Sr, parents James Newton Cheatham and Doris May Burney; and her brother James Paul Cheatham.
