Obituary

Donald Oneal Hamil went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 10 th , 2022. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, February 14, 2022 at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 with visitation beginning one hour prior to service at Wright & Ferguson. Graveside services will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson.

Donald Oneal Hamil was born on March 18, 1927, in Walnut Grove, MS to parents Katherene Talley Hamil and Duffie Oneal Hamil. He graduated from Walnut Grove High School before joining the US Navy at age 17. While in the Navy he served as an electrician aboard the U.S.S. Yosemite. Upon return from the navy he moved to the Jackson area where he met his wife Lyda Ann Edwards. They were married on November 19, 1954, and took up residence in Jackson, where they welcomed their daughter Lynda Ann.

Donald had a long career with Stribling Equipment where he worked from 1986 until retirement in 2017.  He loved his work and was well loved in return.  Known for coordinating the annual Fourth of July celebration at Empire Truck Sales in Richland, he continued the tradition of passing out glow sticks even until this past year.

In his last years he resided at Castlewoods Place in Brandon where he enjoyed reconnecting with old friends as well as discovering new ones.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and siblings Mary Ann Hamil, Jack Wilbanks Hamil, Ethel Marie McMaster, Jesse Glynn Hamil, and Gary Lamar Hamil Sr.

He is survived by his daughter Lynda Hamil Ryan (Tim), granddaughter Katherine Ryan Shearer (William), and sisters Martha Sue Jolly and Bessie Lynn Pickle.

He was a charter member of Lakeshore Baptist Church and at his death was a member of Griffith Memorial Baptist Church.

The family would like to express deepest gratitude to Briar Hill Rest Home in Florence, MS, for the care and compassion they showed during Donald's last days.
