Obituary

Dianne Kay (Huedepohl) Metzner passed from this life to the next to be with her Lord and Savior on October 25, 2022.  After three courageous battles with cancer over nine years, she passed quietly and peacefully and finally without pain.

She is described by her friends and family as extremely lovable, caring and centered on others throughout her life.  Dianne (Annie to some of her friends and family) grew up on a farm in Williamsburg, Iowa, attended a three-room elementary school and the local high school.  She graduated from Valparaiso University in Seward, Nebraska, majoring in teaching and music.  Music-of all music genres-has been a life-long love from classical to the 60's she listened to every day.

Armed with a teaching certificate, she was placed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church and School in Edina, Minnesota, where she taught second grade and was scheduled to be the substitute organist.  She traded that assignment to work with the high school group when she met Kurt, a volunteer youth leader.

Throughout her teaching career with second graders and pre-school children she had a positive Christian influence on hundreds of children in Minneapolis, Phoenix, Houston and Milwaukee.  While her family and teaching children were top priorities, she was actively engaged with Bible Study Fellowship in several leadership roles and contributed her time and energy generously to health-related community missions and groups.

In her spare time, she created some wonderful needlepoint pieces and beautiful scrapbooks of their numerous trips and was also a generous volunteer.  She was Kurt's constant companion at all the Baptist Health Systems and community events and was a favorite and loved by so many.

While always a Lutheran deep in her heart, she and Kurt found a perfect church home at Northminster Baptist and were fed spiritually through solid biblical teachings.  The church family here, as well as throughout their journeys, became the rock of her life.  She especially valued the friendship and support of so many in the Jackson area and in Milwaukee where she had deep ties.

Dianne celebrated 54+ years of marriage to Kurt and leaves her sons, Thomas (Ruth), David (Malia) and two adorable granddaughters, Ella and Finley.  Her brother, Dennis (and friend Sherry) as well as nephews Jeff and Scott and nieces Kristin and Shelly and their families will all miss their special "Annie."  On the Metzner side, sisters-in-law, Nancy and Sally and their families also share in the loss of a very special friend and relative.

A visitation will be at 11:30 am followed by a Worship Service and Celebration of Life at 1 pm on Saturday, October 29, at Northminster Baptist Church, 3955 Ridgewood Road, Jackson, MS 39211.

Memorials can be directed to Northminster Baptist Church, the Baptist Health Foundation, 1225 North State Street, Jackson, MS 39202, the American Cancer Society or the donor's choice.
