Obituary

Darryl Glenn Martin, 67, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on December 27, 2020. A visitation on December 30, 2020, will be held at Wright and Ferguson in Raymond, MS from 12-2:00 PM, and a private family service will be held at 2:00. Masks are required. Brother Steve Wilson will conduct the service. A dear friend, nephews, and brother in law will serve as pallbearers.

Darryl was born on October 29, 1953 to Clyde and Vivian Martin of Clinton, MS. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1972. On September 18, 1976, he married Becky Wilson, his wife of 44 years. Darryl worked for Texas Eastern Transmission Corporation for 43 years.

In 1979, Darryl made a profession of faith to his Lord and Savior and went through believer's baptism at Hillcrest Baptist Church, led by Brother Maurice Clayton. Later, after moving to Raymond, MS, Darryl was an active member of First Baptist Church of Raymond.

His most treasured role was being a father to his two sons, a loving, caring husband, and Papa D to his five precious grandchildren. He was a hands on grandfather and always seemed to have a baby in his lap. He had a special relationship with his two daughters in law, and he was always willing to help and serve others. He had a special gift of being able to patiently figure out just about anything. From working on vehicles to creating beautiful woodwork, Darryl could do it all. He was an avid outdoorsman with a love for the sport that was matched by his respect for the outdoors. Whether he was hunting, fishing, golfing or talking Mississippi State football there was no one he enjoyed doing that with more than his two sons.

Darryl is survived by his wife, Becky Wilson Martin and his two sons, Michael Martin (Kim) of Brandon, MS, Brian Martin (Sarah Frances) of Bowling Green, KY. "Papa D" as he was lovingly known as by his grandchildren leaves behind Emma Grace, Samuel, and Allie Martin of Brandon and Anna Rose and Kaiden Martin of Bowling Green, KY. He is also survived by his two sisters, Dyanne Quinn (Claude) of Starkville, MS and Mary Martin Howell of Clinton, MS, sister in law Nancy Sullivan (Ray), and brother in law Steve Wilson (Jane). He leaves behind nephews and nieces including David Cole (Emily) of Madison, MS, Daniel Cole (Bethany) of Clinton, MS, Stephen Cole (Amber) of Irving, TX, Robert Wilson (Jessica) of England, Andrew Wilson (Zoe) of New Orleans, LA, John Wilson of Wake Forest, NC, Kelly Quinn, Martin Quinn, and Keith Quinn (Chelsie) all of Starkville, MS, Lindsey Tatum of Ridgeland, MS, Kristi Burrell (Travis) of Pearl, MS, and a number of precious great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Darryl is preceded in death by his father in law, Steve Wilson of Raymond, MS and brother in law, John Howell, of Madison, MS.
