Obituary

Mr. Dale Eldon Shelton, age 74, died on June 3, 2021, after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease. He is survived by his wife, Gail Swan Akin, of Clinton, MS; his sister, Helena (Kenneth) Winkler, of Lexington, KY; his stepson, David Akin, of Brandon, MS; his stepdaughter, Jennifer (Timothy) Akin Brumfield, of Ashland, KY; his precious granddaughter, Madelyn (Maddie) Brooke Brumfield, of Ashland, KY; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Shelton was predeceased in death by his parents, James Hughron and Ottie Shelton, his brothers, James Albert and Otas Ray and their wives, Sue and Janeida; by his niece, Debbie Miracle; and by his nephews, John Embry and John Martin.

Mr. Shelton was born on November 20, 1946, in Frankfort, KY. He graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, KY, with a degree in Political Science. After a stint in the Navy, he eventually returned to Frankfort, KY, where he worked for the State of Kentucky in the area of Human Resources for over 30 years. He retired in 2002 after he married Gail Swan Akin.

During their marriage, Dale and Gail enjoyed many trips together. Dale took Gail on her first of many cruises, with the trip to Alaska being their favorite one. Dale also took Gail on her first trip to Las Vegas. He enjoyed playing Blackjack and was quite good at it. Dale planned several family reunions and these meetings were full of fun and games. Every time he returned to Kentucky he would get "the gang" together at the China Wok restaurant and they would celebrate old times. He admitted that he had never seen a single episode of Law and Order until he married Gail, at which time he began watching every old episode at least four times. One of his greatest pleasures was being with his granddaughter and watching her develop into the beautiful person that she is.
