Claire Meeks Cranford, 86, of Edwards, Mississippi peacefully passed away at her home in Edwards, on Thursday morning, April 30, 2015.
Claire was born in Wrightsville, Georgia and moved to Edwards when she was 8 years old. She and Roland met at Hinds Junior College and were married on September 5, 1948. Claire was the longest living member of Edwards United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She participated in the Edwards Garden Club and worked at the Bank of Edwards as a book keeper until she retired. She and Roland loved to travel and have visited 49 of the 50 states.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Roland Cranford, her son Wayne Cranford (Tina) and granddaughters, Robyn Cranford LeMaistre (Collin) and Stephani Cranford. The joy of her life was her great granddaughter and namesake, Alyssa Claire. She is also survived by her sister, Jean Forgey and numerous nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Remus Meeks.
The service will be held Saturday, May 2 at the Edwards United Methodist Church. Visitation will be at the church from 1:00-3:00 with services being held afterwards. Burial will be at Edwards Cemetery following the service.
