Charles Saul, was born on September 30, 1939 and passed peacefully at age 83 in his home on September 4, 2023.  He was born in Lamar County and graduated from Purvis High School. He received a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, and received a Master of Music Education and a Doctor of Education Degree from Mississippi State University.

Charles was a High School Band Director in Silas, AL, as well as Meridian, Quitman, and Laurel, MS. After teaching high school, he assumed the position of State Supervisor of Music in the State Department of Education and eventually was Professor of Educational Administration at Jackson State University where he taught Educational Leadership until his retirement.

Charles was an active supporter of the arts and spent many years with his business, Professional Recording Service, recording hundreds of bands, choirs, and other musical groups across the Southeast. He served on the staff of the Lions All-State Band on two occasions as well as served on the All-State Band Committee for the Lions of Mississippi for several years.

During his retirement, Charles enjoyed playing golf, taking RV trips with his RV Clubs, and traveling the world with his wife, Royce Ann, and their friends.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Merle Saul.

Charles is survived by his wife, Royce Ann Saul; his sons, Dr. Chad Saul (Tina) and Ryan Saul (Lacey); his grandson, J. P. Person, III.

A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton with visitation beginning at 10 a.m.
