Charles William
Mcguffee
May 24, 1942 – July 19, 2022
Charles William (Charlie) McGuffee, the son of Russell Wise and Ida Caroline Ferguson McGuffee, was born in Jackson, Mississippi on May 24,1942. After a brief struggle with pancreatic cancer, he died on July 19, 2022.
Because his father earned a job at Parchman, MIssissippi, Charlie attended school in nearby Drew until he graduated in 1960. Even as a small child he was liked; and when he became a pre-teen and teenager, he was popular and adored by his classmates. At Drew High School, he was always a class officer (including president of the student body); he was a participant in a variety of clubs; he sang in a mixed quartet; and he was always a star on the football and baseball fields. As a continuation of his love of sports, he accepted a scholarship to Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi where he played on their baseball team. He also was active as a Pi Kappa Alpha (Pike) while at the university.
After graduating from Delta State, Charlie became a bank examiner and traveled across many states. He lived in Mobile, Alabama, Lillian, Alabama, and Clinton, Mississippi. While working as a bank examiner, he met Marcia Faye Roberts (Faye) who became his wife August 19, 1972. Meanwhile, Charlie enjoyed reading, hunting and golf. Up until his illness, he played golf with many, including lifelong friends from Drew, Mississippi.
After his retirement years he started a charity called Delta Regional Foundation "I have never worked at a job that was as satisfying and rewarding as the foundation," Charlie said. Donating from the proceeds of the foundation gave Charlie much joy, as he bestowed money to charities all over Northwest Mississippi. Charlie was beloved by many and a friend who always walked the extra mile, calling often or stopping by for visits to keep in touch.
He leaves his wife Faye; two sons, Mark William McGuffee (Cathy) and Kevin Marshall McGuffee ( Kelly ); and three grandchildren, Laney Caroline McGuffee, Reese Kendall McGuffee, and Mary Hayden Patterson. Also, his brother, Russell W. "Mackie" McGuffee (Gloria) and a nephew, Russ McGuffee.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
