Obituary

Charles Woodrow Jones, 97, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 17, 2016, after a short hospitalization following a fall in February. Woodrow, or "C.W.", as he was known to his close family and friends in Greenwood, was born October 26, 1918, in Water Valley, Mississippi. He served in the Navy during World War II where he was at the Great Lakes Air Station in charge of the parachute school. He remained in the Reserve for 25 years.

Woodrow was a former resident of Memphis, Tennessee and moved to Greenwood, Mississippi, where he was an independent life insurance agent for many years. He also served as the court bailiff there after his retirement from the insurance business. Being court bailiff was a "job" that he loved that included many perks, the greatest of which was a round of golf (or two) just about every day while traveling with the "The Judge".

Woodrow was an avid golfer and his faith and family were the two most important things in his life. The pinnacle of his golfing career was getting to play at the Memphis Fed Ex St. Jude Classic Pro-Am golf tournament, one of the "best days of his life" as he described it. He was a devout Baptist and was a very active member of First Baptist Church in Greenwood for many years and Pocahontas Baptist Church in Pocahontas, Mississippi after moving to Clinton. Rarely a day passed that he didn't read either his Bible or devotional. His deep faith was contagious and very inspirational to his family.

Woodrow is survived by his devoted and loving wife of the past 23 years, Mary Goolsby Jones, her two sons, Lee Goolsby, junior (Betty), John Goolsby, senior (Brenda) and her daughter Ann Hays (Kenny) in addition to his nieces Pat Jones Causer, Pam Jones Frey and his great niece, Angela Jones Crone (Andy). Many step grandchildren, and step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and nine great great nieces and nephews who affectionately called him "Paw-paw". All of his family adored him and will miss him dearly.

Woodrow was preceded in death by his parents, Boyd Wilson and Allie Holliman Jones, by his wife of 52 years, Mary Hall Jones, and his nephew, C. Jeff Jones, whom he considered a son, as well as his two brothers, B.W. Jones and Clarence Lee Jones. The family would like to thank Clifton Ervin for his loving and devoted care the past few years. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 20, 2016 at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton, Mississippi at 2:30 p.m. with a service of Celebration of Life to follow at 4:00 p.m. A family graveside service will be held on Monday, March 21, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Memphis Memory Gardens in Memphis, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be sent to Pocahontas Baptist Church.
