A fourth generation Jacksonian, he also live in Brookhaven, MS, as a child. He graduated from Jackson area schools and attended Mississippi State College and IBM Institute in Endicott, NY. He retired from Mississippi Power and Light after 46 ½ years of service. He installed the first IBM system in Mississippi. During his long career at MP&L he was responsible for taking the billing accounts from hand-written statements through to computer-generated statements. A family-oriented person, he took his family on many trips over the United States and twice times to Europe. He and wife Elsie loved to travel and were blessed to be able to make many trips, one of which was a favorite spot, the Smoky Mountains. She was a very talented artist, loved the colors of fall and painted many pictures there. Another special place for him and grandson Clay was "Disney World" and many trips were made there. Known as "Tops" and he certainly was!

A member of First Baptist Church, Jackson, he was a one of five generations who were and are members there. He and Elsie were married by Dr. W.A. Hewitt in his home, where the chapel of FBC stands today.
