Cecil M. Abernathy

Cecil M. Abernathy, 89, passed away at his home on July 19, 2026. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. A graveside service will follow at Abernathy Cemetery in Flora, MS.

Cecil was born September 15, 1936 in Madison County, MS to David Hershal Abernathy and Alma Isabelle McGowan Abernathy. He enlisted in the United States Army on September 23, 1954 and was honorably discharged on September 23, 1957 with the rank of Corporal E4.

Cecil retired from Thompson Heat & Air after working there for ten years. He enjoyed caring for his cows and livestock.

He spent his last twenty-one years in Kiln, MS. He loved to cut grass and keep his home in great shape. He passed away comfortably in his home as he wished to do surrounded by his daughter, son and son-in-law.

Cecil was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Rita an Donna; three brothers; and three sisters.

He is survived by his daughter Sherry Abernathy Allen (Mark); his son Jeffrey Dexter Abernathy (Brandi); his brother, Jimbo Abernathy;

his grandchildren, Andy Allen (Krista), Cody Allen (Briccili), Matthew Bryan Abernathy, Katherin Dagan Abernathy, Robert Chance Abernathy, Jolee Nichole Abernathy, Jackson Dexter Abernathy and Anna Lee North; his great grandchildren, Brook Allen, Ben Allen and Lillian Allen.

Special thanks to Gentiva Hospice and Tabitha his nurse. She spent a great deal of time talking and “fussing” with him.
