Dr. Carroll Ball's Obituary
Carroll Raybourne Ball, PhD, retired Professor of Anatomy at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, died on April 29, 2018 at the age of 92.
Memorial Services will be at Saint Luke's United Methodist Church on Monday, May 7, 2018 at 2 p.m.
Dr. Ball was born in Hillman, MS, October 11, 1925, He attended Millsap's College and Duke University and holds a BS and MS degrees from the University of Mississippi, Oxford and a PhD degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Dr. Ball authored and illustrated a history celebrating the first one hundred years of the Department of Anatomy at the medical Center.
He served in the United States Navy, and retired with the rank of Lt. Comdt., USNR.
Dr. Ball was a member of the First Families of Mississippi and served as Governor Central of the Order, 2001-2005. He served three terms on the Board of Directors of the Mississippi Historical Society. He was a past president of the Jackson Civil War Roundtable and was chairman of the Coker House Restoration project of the Roundtable.
He was a member of the ODK academic fraternity and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha social fraternity. He is listed in Who's Who in America.
Dr. Ball was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church.
Dr. Ball is survived by sons, Dr. Hugh Brooks Ball (Sharyn) of Daphne, Alabama,
Peter Stephen Ball of Indianapolis, IN daughter, Lou Ellen of Jackson and longtime friend and colleague Dr. Anthony Moore (Vicky).
