Carolyn
Burns
September 1, 1938 – November 24, 2022
Carolyn Louise (Harrison) Burns passed away peacefully on Thanksgiving evening, November 24 th , 2022 in her new home in Roswell, GA, at the age of 83 from complications related to COPD and dementia. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 3 rd at 11:00 AM at Lakewood Memorial Park South, 430 McCluer Road in Jackson. Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Flowood is in charge of arrangements.
She was born on September 1, 1938 in Belzoni, MS to John Delmas (JD) and Mattie Laura (Bufkin) Harrison, and was the first of three siblings. She grew up in Utica and Byram and subsequently graduated from St. Joseph High School in Jackson where she was a cheerleader her senior year and a member of the basketball team her junior and senior years.
She was employed at Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph when she married her husband of 30 years, Warren. After the birth of their first child, she undertook one of the toughest and most rewarding jobs – stay-at-home-mom. She was involved in the Children's Theatre and had a passion for advocacy for the elderly, particularly for US service veterans. She was admired by all who knew her for her bubbly personality, her honesty, work ethic, and commitment to her faith. Her strong outgoing personality and infectious smile complemented her desire to talk with anyone who would listen or needed to talk. Her family often said she could strike up a conversation with a brick wall - and the wall would talk back! Once her children were self-sufficient, she again entered the workforce with the University of Mississippi Medical Center, in Jackson, MS, where she was an Administrative Assistant in the Department of Radiology until her retirement in March 2010. She moved from Jackson to Roswell, GA in August 2022, to be closer to family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother John Delmas Harrison, Jr., and her former husband, Warren Trimble Burns. She is survived by her daughter Leigh Ann Burns Naas (Dennis), her son Warren Trimble Burns, Jr., her three grandchildren Dylan, Harrison, and Sophia Burns, her sister Patricia Purvis, nieces Jennifer Pulliam (Greg), Kim Speed (Stewart), Staci Maddox (Jim), Bari Oglesbee (Josh), Romona (Mona) Richard, Leslie Harrison (Laura), Karen Watts (Byron), Angie Huselton (Steve), her grandnephews Nicholas Barnes (Madison), Scott Pulliam (Amanda), Jake Pulliam, Camp Norman, Harrison Speed, Hayes Middleton, Drake Harrison, Rayce Harrison, Harper Richard, sisters-in-law Audrey Burns, Yvonne Rhodes, Annette Madeley, and Arlene Harrison, and numerous Bufkin and Harrison cousins and extended family members. The family gratefully acknowledges the loving kindnesses shown over the years by her closest Jackson friends, Terry Blackmon and Kathleen Smith.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Agape Hospice Care ( https://agapehospicecare.com/donate ) or to the charity of your choice.
