Obituary

Carnette Rackley McMillan of Clinton died the 25 th of February 2022 at the age of 92 after living a full life. Visitation will be Saturday, March 5 th , 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton, MS. The Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Graveside Service at the Clinton Cemetery.

She was born in Pontotoc County on March 9, 1929, to Mike and Allee Little Rackley, she was an honor graduate of Pontotoc High School.

She earned the BA in English from Mississippi College and had additional studies at Wayland University in Plainview, Texas and Louisiana College in Pineville, Louisiana. She devoted a lifetime career to Baptist Higher Education. She served in various capacities at Wayland University and Louisiana College which included part-time instructor of English and Assistant to the Librarian.

The family came to Mississippi College in 1973 and two years later she joined the staff of the new Mississippi College School of Law as the Acquisitions Librarian, a post she held for 17 years until her retirement.

Her husband, Dr. Edward McMillan, was Vice President for Graduate and Special Programs at Mississippi College. His responsibilities included the International Programs. Together they developed and implemented the London Semester Program at Mississippi College beginning in 1989 and the Spring Break Program in 1990. When they retired as directors of these programs in 2004, more than 750 participants had traveled abroad with the McMillans. The couple also created the McMillan History Honors Endowment at Mississippi College.

Church and community activities have been an important part of her life as well. Through the years she enjoyed working in the church college departments and then in the Hannah Sunday School class and the Senior Adult Joy Makers Choir at First Baptist Church in Clinton. She was also active in the Clinton Town Club and The Clinton Study Club and volunteered at the Clinton Visitors Center near the Natchez Trace Parkway.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Edward McMillan (2018) and her sister, Martha R. Rodgers. She is survived by her sons and family: Dr. David Lee McMillan of Front Royal, Virginia and Dale Wayne McMillan (Karon) of Clinton. Grandchildren, Wendy Lynn McMillan Lomenick (Jay) in Mobile, AL and their children Harper Lynn 9, Spencer Christian 7 and Reed Thomas 6; Jason Lee McMillan (Susanna) in Clinton; Dr. David Lee McMillan, Jr. (Kellye) in Charleston, SC and their son Connor Slay 3; Bradley Alexander McMillan in Front Royal, VA and Ryan Scott McMillan, in Terry, MS.
