Obituary

Brenda Kay Green Flanagan, 67, passed away at St. Dominic Hospital on December 18, 2020. A private celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church in Clinton followed by a private burial at Parkway Memorial Cemetery. Harvey Ellis will conduct the service. Brenda's son and nephews will serve as pallbearers. The service will be broadcasted on the Facebook page of Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home.

Brenda was born on April 27, 1953, to Doyle and Beatrice Green of Yazoo City. She attended Yazoo City High School and graduated in 1971. On March 8, 1975, she married Jim Flanagan, her husband of forty-five years. Brenda worked as Bookkeeper for accounting firms and later at Jackson Bone and Joint and Jackson Ready-Mix. When her husband purchased Dixie Data Products in 1989, she assisted him in the management of the company. They later founded Better Marketing Konnection.

In 1976, Brenda made a profession of faith in her Lord and Savior and demonstrated her commitment through believer's baptism at Parkway Baptist Church led by Dr. Bill Causey. Later, she and Jim were members of Raymond Road Baptist Church where she taught preschool and served on many committees and also First Baptist Church Clinton where she taught GAs for many years.

Her most treasured role was being a mother to her three children and later "NeNe" to her six grandchildren. She was deeply devoted to each of their lives and cherished spending quality time with each one. She was given the nickname "Momma Flanagan" by many of her children's friends because of her loving spirit and how she always made each of them feel like one of her own. Brenda will be remembered for her servant heart as she was always willing to help others in their time of need.

Brenda is survived by her husband, Jim Flanagan, and her three children, Beth Lusk (John) of Jackson, Matt Flanagan of Clinton, and Kellie Mathis (Taylor) of Tupelo. She leaves behind her six beloved grandchildren, John Marshall Lusk, IV and James Lusk of Jackson, and Morgan Mathis, Millie Mathis, Mary Phillips Mathis, and Madeline Mathis of Tupelo. She is also survived by her three sisters, Joyce Rist (Mike) and Lisa Peeples (Pat) of Yazoo City, and Shirley Horton of Brandon. She leaves behind nieces, Stacey Williams (Kevin), Tracey Head (Chuck), Carrie Gray (Matt), and Ashley Peeples and nephews, Wes Horton and Steven Peeples along with great nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

In addition to her parents, Brenda is preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law Bill and Mildred Flanagan, brother-in-law Larry Horton, and nephew Christopher Rist.
