Bonny Joy Dickson, 81, was the daughter of Relbue M. and Ruby Mae (Elliott) Morgan. She was born on October 2nd, 1936, in Grenada, Mississippi. She had a happy childhood, living with her grandparents, James ("Jim") Langley Elliott and Beulah Booth Elliott. Joy's mother (Ruby) was re-married to John D. Stouffer, and at the end of WWII, the three of them moved to Vicksburg to live together, where Joy remained until she left for college.
She dearly loved her Aunt Barbara (Elliott) Watson, Uncle Willie Gray and Aunt Clyde Gray, her cousins, James Harold ("Wooky"), Glenda, Lagatha, and Eleanor ("Monkey") Gray and many others who grew up with her. She was especially fond of their long-time family nanny/housekeeper named Ollie.
Joy was a good student and an accomplished French Horn player. She also loved to play piano and sing. While attending USM (from 1954 to 1957), she was a member of the Wesley Foundation Campus ministry, USM Marching Band, USM Symphony Orchestra, and numerous other fraternal and honorary organizations. She was also a Dean's List honor student. At the conclusion of her junior year at USM, on June 9th, 1957, she was married to her husband of 61 years, T. Miller Dickson, Jr. In June 1958, she finished her senior year at LSU, graduating with a B.A. Degree in Sociology. About a year later, Joy gave birth to the first of her four children. She and T. Miller then moved to Jackson where they bought their first home on Reed Avenue and eventually had three more children. Their names are: Michael, John, Stephanie, and Steven. She was later gifted with seven grandchildren, and eight (+) great-grandchildren.
Joy was active in the church (especially choir) and her community. She was a devout Christian and a very loving, caring wife and mother/grandmother. She taught goodness, honesty, and the "Golden Rule". She was a real prayer warrior and always believed that faith could move mountains. Constantly studying her bible, she shared her Christian faith with her family and friends, planting seeds bountifully as our Lord has commanded.
Services will be held at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Raymond, MS. Visitation will be Friday, September 7, from 6 pm until 8 pm. Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 8 at 11 am. She will be laid to rest on Saturday, September 8 at 3 pm in Holcomb, MS.
