Bob Allan Dunaway

Bob Allan Dunaway, 93, passed away September 13, 2026, in Jackson, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 18, 2026, at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton, MS. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel. Graveside services will be held at Clinton Cemetery.

Mr. Dunaway was born August 22, 1933, at Walker’s Bridge on the Bogue Chitto River and he attended Tylertown schools through the third grade. He graduated from Columbia High School in 1952 and entered the United States Air Force soon after graduating. He served as an illustrator technician at Keesler AFB in Mississippi, with the 50th Fighter Bomber Wing in Germany, in Morocco and Libya with the 17th Air Force, and remained in the active reserves until he became a member of the MS Air National Guard in 1974. He retired from the MSANG in 1993 as Chief Master SGT, NCO for Education and Training, State Headquarters. He was a graduate of the ANG NCO Academy, Knoxville, TN, and the U.S. Air Force Senior NCO Academy, Montgomery, AL. He earned a baccalaureate degree from Mississippi College, Master’s in Arts Education at Illinois State University, and did post graduate work at Arizona State University and the University of Mississippi.

Mr. Dunaway joined First Baptist Church of Clinton in 1987 and was a member of the Richard Lewis Bible Study Class. A deacon, he was also active in the Joy Makers Choir and the forever Young fellowship.

His teaching career began in Jackson Public Schools in 1961 at Provine High School and Hardy Junior High. He taught for several years at Mississippi College, and Wayland Baptist University, Plainview, Texas before spending the last twenty-five years of his career at Hinds Community College in Raymond. He retired from teaching in 1995 but continued to conduct art workshops around the state and made devotional demonstrations with his art to various church and civic groups. He frequently wrote articles for his hometown paper, The Tylertown Times, under the title, “Things Remembered.”

He also published four works, an Instructional Manual "Text Book, Sketch Book, Article for the Book "Hometown MS" for the Clinton Arts Club and two biographies "Recollections about Recollections" and "More Recollections about Recollections.

He will be remembered in art circles as a teacher and primarily a “regional” watercolor painter, although he produced numerous sculpture works in steel, bronze and clay.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lynn and his children – daughter, Melody Field (Ward) of Edwards, MS; son, Michael Allan (Karen) of Marietta, GA; son, James Edwin (Robin), granddaughter, Ann-Reagan (Will) and two great grandchildren, Reaux Bradley Conquest and Mary Kate Conquest all of Trussville, AL. He loved his many nephews and nieces, and their extended families.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of nearly fifty-three years, Jeanette; sister, Jane Martinisko of Phoenix, AZ; brother, David Dunaway of Tylertown, MS; and sister, Effie Horton of Denham Springs, LA .

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Bob and Jeanette Dunaway Endowed Art Scholarship at Mississippi College, the Maintenance Fund at First Baptist Church, Clinton, MS, Clinton Cemetery Association or Mississippi Children’s Home Society.
