Obituary

Billy Ray Pollock – Local Auto Executive

Born February 1st, 1932, at home in Jackson, MS, to Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Pollock Sr.

Attended Jackson Public Schools starting with Galloway Grammar, Bailey Jr. High, and graduated from Jackson Central High School, Class of 1950.

Soon after graduating high school, Bill and some friends joined the U.S. Air Force. After one year in the USAF, Bill got a pass and came home and married his high school sweetheart, Jane Oakes, who had just graduated Central High in 1951.

They lived in Biloxi, MS, then moved to Denver, CO, and then on to Ft. Worth, TX, where their first son, Michael Ray, was born. From Ft. Worth they moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana, where their second son, Mark Carr, was born.

After serving four years in the USAF, Bill was discharged and moved back to Jackson, where daughter Lee Ann was born.

Bill started his career in the auto business at Dumas Milner Chevrolet as a Service Advisor. From there he moved on to Fowler Buick Co., where he worked his way up to become Service Manager.

After that he moved to the Sales Department, selling new and used cars. From there he moved up to Sales Manager at Rogers Dingus Chevrolet in Brandon. He moved from there to Blackwell Chevrolet in Jackson as General Sales Manager. From there he moved back to Fowler Buick-GMC as General Manager, where he stayed until he retired.

After retiring, Bill and Jane bought a motor home and traveled all 48 states and parts of Canada. They flew to Rome, Paris, London, Japan, and Hawaii before retiring.

Bill was preceded in death by his mother and father, sister Louise, brothers Irving and Gene, daughter Lee Ann, son Michael, and wife Jane.

Bill is survived by his son Mark, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren, as well as his brother George.

Bill was elected to the office of Coroner of Hinds County. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a Shriner, a member of the American Legion, Moose Lodge, Sertoma Club, Jackson Sales and Marketing Club, and President of the Jackson Jaycees.

He coached a Little League baseball team and helped bring a YMCA club to South Jackson. He was a member of Flowood Baptist Church.

Bill adored his family.  An untold number of birthdays and holidays were celebrated at his table.

He was thrilled at the opportunity to treat his grandchildren and great grandchildren to the art of fishing in the pond behind his home. So many memories were made at house he loved.

His kindness warmed the neighborhood and neighbors looked out for him after the loss of his beloved wife. He was very active in church and remained close to his friends in the congregation.

Bill was a very special, accomplished man. This patriarch will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
