Obituary

Surrounded by his family, Billy Lee Holden passed away at home on March 18, 2024.  He was born in Jackson, MS on July 6, 1930, to Catherine Mary Warriner Holden and Joel Darvin Holden, Sr.  He graduated from St. Joseph High School in Jackson and proudly served in the United States Air Force.  Billy retired from South Central Bell Telephone Company (AT&T) after a 36-year career.  He also established two independent businesses – Billy's Archery Shop and Holden's Painting Service.

Billy was an avid hunter and fisherman.  His memorable smile was brightest when returning home from the outdoors at Tennessee Bar Hunting and Fishing Club, where he was a member for 67 years.  He loved spending time with this community and providing food for his family and friends.

Billy will be remembered for his noble character and servant's heart.  He generously supported others with his time, talents, and skillful workmanship.  He spent many holidays in the kitchen, preparing delicious feasts and sharing his heirloom family recipes.  His jovial nature kept everyone smiling and created many special memories for those who loved their "Pop."

Billy was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Margaret Ann Guion Holden, his parents, and his brother Joel Darvin Holden, Jr.

He is survived by daughters Kathleen Holden Watters (Doug) and Susan Holden of Brandon, MS; son William "Bill" Holden (Patty) of Alpharetta, GA; grandchildren Julie Carnathan Graves (Marshall), Hannah Holden Cunningham, William "Billy" Holden, Joshua Maddox, Madison Maddox; and great-grandchildren Leigha Graves and Everett Graves.

The family wishes to thank his long-time physician Dr. Paul Sheffield, Baptist Hospice, Assisting Angels, and family and friends who provided comfort and companionship during the last several months.  Memorials may be sent to Wildlife Mississippi, P.O. Box 10, Stoneville, MS 38776.

The family will hold private services.
