Betty Jo "B.J." Chamness, 78, passed away on January 30, 2015, at UMMC after a short illness. Visitation is 2:00-4:00 Sunday and 9:00 until the 10:00 memorial service on Monday at Wright & Ferguson Clinton.
B.J. was born on July 6, 1936, to Harold and Ruth Thompson. She attended Clinton High School and graduated from the Gilfoy School of Nursing at the Baptist Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi as a registered nurse. Nursing was her passion and she worked at the Mississippi Baptist Hospital, Hinds General, Rankin General, V.A., and Batson Children's Hospital as well as others, including hospitals across the United States as a travel nurse. She was an active member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Ridgeland. She enjoyed playing bingo and supporting the local American Legion Post 112.
B.J. is survived by three daughters, Victoria Curl of Clinton, Toni Tait (David) of Tuscaloosa, AL, Leigh Ann Cobb of New York, NY; two sons, Hugh M. Cobb II (Lisa) of Jackson, Jason Chamness (Emily) of Chesapeake, VA; her sister Judy Hand (Butch) of Terry and her brother Bill Thompson (Helen) of St. Louis, MO; eight grandchildren, Hagen, Mathew, Trey, Kayli, Kyle, Martin, Elena and Elisa and one great grandchild, Hollis.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to the French Camp Academy or the American Legion Post 112.
