A true Southern gentleman, Dr. Benjamin Allen Root, Jr. passed away peacefully and unexpectedly early Friday morning, January 15, 2021. His dear family and friends will miss his intellect and quick wit. A graveside service will be held at 11am Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Jackson.

He was born on June 22, 1952 in Jackson. He attended Wingfield High School where he was voted "Most Likely to Succeed" graduating with honors. He then attended Millsaps College and graduated from University of Mississippi Medical Center and obtained a degree in Psychiatry.

He joined the Ms. Neuropsychiatric Clinic in 1986 where he was deeply devoted to his patients. He had a great love for his practice and fellow staff members.

Ben is preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Allen Root and Dorothy Norwood Root; first wife, Lynn Green Root; and brother-in-law, William Pitts.

He is survived by his devoted companion, Rebecca Foust; canine children, Rex, Tubby, and Bonnie Root; his doting sister, Kathy Root Pitts; nieces, Tracy Pitts and Laura Pitts Luke; and nephew, Leo Luke.
