Basil Leon Browning, age 80, passed away Friday, September 4, 2015. He was born July 12, 1935 in Monroe County, Amory, Mississippi to Basil G. and Chastine J. Browning. After high school, he worked with the Mississippi State Highway Department in Jackson and also served in the United States Army. Leon attended Mississippi College where he received BS and MBA degrees. He served as Chief Accountant for the Mississippi Public Utilities Staff and after retirement continued working as a Certified Public Accountant.
Leon was an active member of Morrison Heights Baptist Church and a member of Mount Salus Masonic Lodge in Clinton. He is survived by his wife, Annie Laura of 59 years, two sons, Barry Leon of Clinton, Randy Burt (Christi), two granddaughters, Anna Grace and Abigail of Jackson, and one nephew, Don Browning of Amory, MS. Leon was preceded in death by his parents, two older brothers, William and David Browning, and a nephew, Jay Browning all of Amory, MS.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 6, 2015 at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home, 106 Cynthia Street, Clinton, MS. The funeral will also be held at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton on Monday, September 7, 2015 at 3 p.m. followed by burial services at Parkway Memorial Cemetery, 1161 Highland Colony Parkway, Ridgeland, MS.
