Obituary

In the morning hours of July 10, 2025, heaven's choir gained an even sweeter sound with the passing of Barbara Maxwell Brown. Born to the late Pauline Owen Maxwell and Estes Maxwell on August 20, 1942, in Covington Tennessee, Barbara was the youngest of five children. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Owen Maxwell, Mary Elizabeth Fryer, Glenn Maxwell, Sr., and Phillip Maxwell.

A member of the 1960 graduating class of Byars-Hall High School, Barbara went on to earn a degree in music education from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1965. She later married Jack Brown, who precedes her in death. Together, they had two children, Christopher and Catherine.

While Barbara was small in stature, diminutive she was not. Full of spunk and sass, she always had a story or joke to share – and she knew all the stories. As the unofficial family historian, Barbara loved sharing old photographs and tales of long-gone family members with the younger generations. No matter the subject, she was quick-witted and sure to garner a hearty laugh or two.

She leaves behind two children, Christopher Brown (Elaine Wheatley) and Catherine Brown, as well as two grandchildren, Stephen and Patrick Brown. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, who are invited to gather at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home (114 Burney Drive Flowood, MS) on Friday, July 18th. Visitation at 10:00am, followed by services at 11:00am. Burial to follow at 1:00pm at Lakewood South (430 McCluer Road Jackson, MS). Please wear blue, Barbara's favorite color.
