Ellen Ashley White McCaleb, 89, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.
Visitation will be Saturday, Oct. 28, from1-2 p.m. at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton, Miss. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
A service will be held in Ruston, La., at the Temple Baptist Church Chapel at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct 29, 2017. A brief burial service for family will follow at Kilpatrick's Memorial Gardens (formerly Pines Memorial Garden) next to her parents, Everett N. and Ellen A. White.
Ashley is survived by her husband, Jimmy McCaleb, of Clinton and brother, Ron White and his wife, Margie, of Black Mountain, NC.; a nephew and two nieces; Chris White of Lafayette, LA, Ashley Anne Ellis of Ruston, LA, and Carrie Owen (Jason) of College Station, Texas, and great nephews Stovall White of Monroe, LA and Owen, Davis Glen and Andrew Ellis of Ruston, LA, and great niece Macey Claire White of Baton Rouge.
Ashley McCaleb graduated from Delta State College (now University) in Cleveland, MS, and attended Mississippi College in Clinton where she first met her future husband. They were married for a little over 56 years. She earned her M.A. from Carver School of Missions which allowed her to attend classes at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY, and did additional graduate work at the University of Missouri in Columbus and the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg.
She worked for the Baptist Women's Missionary Union in Missouri, Oklahoma and Mississippi. She and Jimmy retired to Clinton, MS, in 1995 and were members of First Baptist Church in Clinton.
