Arlene Trahan Hill

Arlene Trahan Hill was born in Lake Arthur, Louisiana on February 5,, 1930. She grew up in a large family of 14 children and attended Gueydan High School. After graduation, she worked as a telephone operator in Jennings, LA where she met her husband, Arden C. Hill. After moving to Clinton, she opened Hill’s Daycare (1967 – 1983) where she lavished the hundreds of children she cared for with love and adoration. She was not bashful about her faith in Jesus Christ, sharing His story with any and all who came to be around her. In Arlene’s own words regarding the children in her care, she wrote, “The best times were the first thirty minutes in the morning when we sang praise songs, learned scriptures, had a Bible story, and had prayer time. I encouraged them to make prayer requests. I told them I would pray and wanted them to pray aloud at the same time for those requests and anything they wanted to tell Jesus. I told them God would hear each prayer as we prayed because He wasn’t hearing our words as much as He was reading our hearts. Hearing those little voices in earnest prayer made my heart squeeze and brought tears to my eyes on more than one occasion. If you ever got on the Prayer List, you were not forgotten until there was an answer.” This sums up Arlene Hill’s life. A faithful prayer warrior and intercessor.

Arlene is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Arden, as well as four sisters and seven brothers. She is survived by her daughters, Charlene Lewis (Harvey, Nesbit, MS) and Nancy Thweatt (Mark, Roswell, GA); sons Jerome Hill (Lisa) and Donnie Hill (Martha) both of Clinton, MS; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; and two brothers Melvin Trahan (Houma, LA) and Jerry Trahan (Gueydan, LA ).

Family and friends were a central focus throughout Arlene’s life. Family gatherings were common where she prepared fabulous meals of gumbo, fried chicken or pot roast and a much sought after chocolate cake. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were always welcome and were met with a hug and a kiss, and most often a full cookie jar. Nieces and nephews were loved as her own. Arlene was committed to community as an active member in church, serving as a Girl Scout leader, as treasurer for Attache’ Booster Club and as secretary of the Christian Women of America group.
