Obituary

Antoinette Louise Richardson-van Kriedt was born to Elizabeth Louise Hanson Richardson and Jules Verne Richardson in New Orleans, Louisiana, on November 10, 1943, at Southern Baptist Hospital. She left this world peacefully on April 29, 2023, at her home in Clinton, Mississippi. Toni, as she was known, was dedicated to her community, which included St. Andrew's Episcopal Cathedral in Jackson, Mississippi, Jackson Left Leaners, and Salon des Chiens, her cherished dog salon. Together with Paul, Toni focused her life on friends and family, humanitarian progressive political causes, and their dog Malcolm, a Scottish terrier.

Toni was a 1961 graduate of the University of Iowa High School. She studied writing at the University of Iowa before relocating to Marin County, California, with her father. In 1968, she met Paul van Kriedt and they married in 1972 and welcomed their son, James Andrew van Kriedt, in 1980. Toni made the news during her pregnancy for being pregnant at age 36.

Toni and Paul made Sausalito, California, their home and built a solid life together raising James and enjoying the company of their pugs Jigs and Jasmine and cat, Maggie. Toni was an active member of Church of Our Savior in Mill Valley, California, for many decades before moving to Clinton in November of 2011. A true and loyal friend who touched the lives of many, Toni enjoyed more than a decade of friendship and camaraderie in Clinton.

Toni is survived by her husband of 51 years, Paul, and their son, James (Bend, Oregon). She is also survived by her brothers, Houston Richardson (Portland, Oregon) and John Richardson (Phoenix, Arizona), and their families. Toni is survived by her beloved grandson Ian van Kriedt and her daughter in-law, Michelle van Kriedt (Bend, Oregon). She is survived and dearly loved by many cousins and second cousins, including Amelia Addison, Doug Richardson, Jay Richardson and his wife Jessica Ramos, Jeffery and Morgan Richardson, and their families. Toni was preceded in death by her father, Jules Verne, her mother, Elizabeth Louise, and her stepmother, Harriet (Hallie) Richardson.
