Annie Lois
Chisholm Howell
October 31, 1939 – February 9, 2024
Ann was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was always smiling and always ensured those around her felt loved. Annie Lois Chisholm Howell, 84, of Clinton, MS, died peacefully at her home with loved ones by her side on February 9, 2024. She battled Alzheimer's for well over thirteen years.
She was born in Lucedale, MS on October 31, 1939, to Lloyd and Effie Chisholm. She graduated from Lucedale High School in 1957 where she was a cheerleader and played basketball. She also met the love of her life Lester Howell at Lucedale High and they were married July 4th, 1958. They were married for 65 years and set the example of how married people should treat each other. In fact, their children never saw them argue their entire life.
Ann adored her four kids and went to countless recitals and sporting events and were her kids' biggest fan. She probably loved her grandkids and great grandkids even more if that were even possible. As she rocked them to sleep you could always hear her singing lullabies through the house. She would play basketball with them and swim with them for hours at a time as she taught them all to swim.
Ann loved to cook and always had lunch ready for the entire family every Sunday after church. Ann had many hobbies and activities she loved. She was a pretty good tennis player, she loved to watch westerns especially if John Wayne was starring in them, and she loved to fish and watch deer at the family farm in Edwards. Ann loved music and late in life when Alzheimer's had taken so much from her, she was always singing along word for word songs by Elvis and hymns sung by Alan Jackson. Ann was a devout Christian lady. She was longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Clinton where she and Lester were faithful members of the Good News Sunday School Class.
Ann will always be remembered for her smile, her caring and selfless personality, infectious laughter, and sense of humor. She never had a bad day as she was always happy, making those around her feel good too. She always welcomed anyone that showed up to the house. Ann had many sayings and quotes she would say to all her family that were almost always said incorrectly, but they all knew she meant somehow. She was the best mother anyone could ask for and she will be greatly missed every day.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents Lloyd and Effie Chisolm, granddaughter Leslie Ann Monk, and her siblings Dot Gough, Peggy Crawley Jean Pierce, Billie Grifka, and Bob Chisholm. Ann is survived by her husband Lester Howell of 65 years; her four kids, Angela (Doug) Compere, Terrie Howell, Kelly (Mark) Howard, Les (Angie) Howell; her grandkids Lindsey (Jim) Tracy, Taylor (Catherine) McKee, Madison (Luke) Rowan, Trace Howell, and Carly Howell; and her great-grandkids Alden Riley Tracy, Anisten Tracy, Easton Tracy, Bennett McKee, Evie McKee, Andi Rowan, Tanner Rowan, and Clay Rowan.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the many caretakers, nurses, and doctors that tended to Mama's every need.
There will be a visitation on February 12, 2024, at 10:00-12:00 with the funeral service at 12:00 at Wright & Ferguson in Clinton. A graveside service for the family will be held immediately following at Lakewood Memorial Park in west Jackson. Pallbearers are Taylor McKee, Trace Howell, Mark Howard, Jim Tracy, Luke Rowan, and Bill Pierce. Honorary pallbearers include Alden Riley Tracy, Easton Tracy, Bennett McKee, and Clay Rowan. Donations in Ann's honor to the First United Methodist Church of Clinton, Alzheimer's Association, or a charity of your choosing would be greatly appreciated.
