Ann M. Sturdivant

Ann M. Sturdivant, age 90, of Brandon, Mississippi, passed away on October 23, 2026. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and community leader, Ann lived a remarkable life defined by her faith, determination, and dedication to her family and public education.

Ann is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years, Adrian Sturdivant; her daughter, Alyssa Farmer; her son, Ryan Sturdivant (Kristy); her sister, Bettye Covington (Jack); and her brother, Buddy McGehee. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ally Farmer, Brayden Farmer (Mia), Nash Sturdivant, and Beckham Sturdivant; her great-granddaughter, Alden Lane Farmer; and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Affectionately known as “Mymom” to her grandchildren, Ann treasured time spent with her family. She was a familiar and enthusiastic presence at Rankin County school sporting events for more than four decades, proudly cheering on her grandchildren and generations of local students.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Ruby Mae McGehee; her sons, Steve, Mike, and Greg Sturdivant; and her son-in-law, Paul Farmer, DVM. Her devotion to her three sons, each of whom lived with significant physical disabilities, reflected her determination to ensure they experienced full and independent lives.

In 1980, Ann became the first woman elected to the Rankin County School Board, beginning more than four decades of public service, including many years as board president. A passionate advocate for public education, Ann believed every child deserved access to excellent educational opportunities. In recognition of her extraordinary dedication, the Fine Arts and Sports Complex at the Northwest Rankin Attendance Center was named in her honor—a lasting tribute to her commitment to the children of Rankin County.

Throughout her life, Ann faced adversity with courage, resilience, and an unwavering determination to make things better. Inspired by her mother, she approached challenges with creativity and perseverance, advocating for others and finding ways to overcome even the most difficult circumstances.

A charter member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Ann was a faithful member who served in numerous leadership roles. Her Christian faith was reflected in her compassion, generosity, and commitment to serving others.

Ann’s family extends heartfelt gratitude to her hospice nurse, April Bridges, the caregivers at The Blake, and Shirley Sandifer for their kindness and compassionate care during her final years.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Ann’s memory be honored through donations, volunteer service, or continued support of the Rankin County school systems. We are working on setting up a scholarship in her honor and will keep you all posted.

Ann leaves behind a lasting legacy through the family she cherished, the community she served, and the generations of children whose opportunities were strengthened by her leadership. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
