Obituary

Andrea (Andi) Marler McDaniel, a cherished member of the Clinton community, passed away suddenly on July 12, 2024, surrounded by her family. Whether you knew her as Andi, Mom, Grandma, or GiGi, she was a beautiful person inside and out; loved by everyone who knew her.

Andi dedicated her life to family and serving others, embodying the spirit of volunteerism through her extensive and heartfelt contributions. Andi was a docent at the Mississippi Governor's Mansion for many years, where she delighted in sharing the rich history and heritage of our state. She extended her love for nature as a volunteer at the Clinton Nature Center and welcomed visitors with a warm smile at the Natchez Trace Clinton Welcome Center. Her commitment to the well-being of others was evident in her service with Clinton 4C's Meals on Wheels (often dragging along her grandchildren in an attempt to pass on the "volunteer gene") and St. Dominic Hospital. Andi served on the inaugural Board of Directors for Main Street Clinton, functioned as an ambassador for the Clinton Chamber of Commerce, and was recognized by the Hinds County Human Resource Agency as Volunteer of the Year. She was a proud participant in Leadership Clinton and Clinton's Citizens Police Academy. Her contributions were recognized by Salute to Senior Services, naming her Volunteer of the Year. Andi served several terms as President of the Woodmoor Homeowners Association.

As a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church, Andi participated in a mission trip to Belarus, taught Sunday School, and was a driving force behind the church's MYF program, initiating the Friday Night Football Fifth Quarter for the youth. One of her greatest blessings was hosting two elementary age girls from Belarus for two summers, and they refer to her as their "USA Grandma." In this season of life, Andi began worshipping at First Baptist Clinton and joined First Baptist Clinton several months ago.

Andi was preceded in death by her loving husband, Roger Wesley McDaniel. Andi's true legacy is the family she leaves behind, cherished daughters, Cindy Horn Howell (Kevin); Debbie Horn; Suzi Horn Williamson (Malcolm); Peggy McDaniel Welch (David); and Mary McDaniel Swoope (Gray), her treasured grandchildren, Ashley Howell Hesse (Cole); Parker James Howell; Morgan Williamson Taylor (Matt); Spencer Ray Williamson; David Edwin Welch; Grace Elizabeth Swoope and Anne Carrie Swoope and her beloved great-grandchildren, Whit; Vivian; Pierce and Hudson. She will also be missed by her nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many cherished friends.

A service celebrating Andi's life will be held at Clinton Methodist Church on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will be held at Wright and Ferguson Funeral home in Clinton on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. and at Clinton Methodist Church prior to the service at 10:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Clinton 4Cs in her memory.

Andi often expressed that "I love my family" and "I have lived a good life," and those words, coupled with her love of God, give us comfort during this time and feel blessed that we belonged to her.
