Alice Marie Jones Burchfield, 84, of Clinton, MS, died peacefully on February 13, 2024, at Highland Holmes in Ridgeland. Alice was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and great friend to many. She was a kind soul who loved to laugh and always ensured that those around her felt loved

Alice was born in Yazoo City on July 29, 1939, to William and Doris Jones. She graduated in 1957 from Yazoo City High School where she played basketball. In 1960, Alice married Chase Lamar Johnston, Sr., and they had one daughter, Teresa Dell Johnston, and one son, Chase Lamar "Bubba" Johnston, Jr. Tragically in 1966, Chase Sr., died in an automobile accident.

Shortly following his death, Alice with Bubba and Teresa, moved to Jackson and in 1967, met Thames Burchfield through a blind date. On December 7, 1967, they married. After moving to Clinton, Alice and Thames welcomed two sons, Kevin in 1969, and Brian in 1973. In 1984, she began her employment with the City of Clinton from where she retired in 2003 as the Personnel Director.

In her spare time, Alice enjoyed attending her kids' and grandkids' sporting events. She tried to make every one that she could. She enjoyed traveling and some of her favorite trips included visits to Europe, Hawaii, Alaska, Las Vegas, and all over the southeastern United States. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining. She always made sure everyone had their favorite meals and desserts. She frequently said that many memories were made in and around the kitchen. Bridge was another passion of hers and she loved playing with her close group of friends for many years. She was a devout Christian and attended Pocahontas Baptist Church for as long as she was able.

Alice will be remembered for her generous spirit and her love for her family. She cherished the times when everyone could be together.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, William and Doris Jones, brothers William Jones and Clifton Jones, and son, Chase "Bubba" Johnston. She is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, Thames; three children, Teresa (Mike) Warren of Clinton, Kevin (Kate) Burchfield of Alpharetta, GA, and Brian (Tiffany) Burchfield of Madison, MS; her grandkids, Kristen (Josh) Lancaster, Brooks (Cathrine) Warren, Zach Burchfield, Jeremy Burchfield, Callie Burchfield,

Walker Burchfield, Lathan Burchfield, and Sydney Burchfield; and her great grandkids, Chase Lancaster and Cannon Lancaster.

Pall Bearers are Brooks Warren, Walker Burchfield, Zach Burchfield, Lathan Burchfield, Jeremy Burchfield, and Josh Lancaster.
