Alice Amelia Gorman Bass passed away on Monday, August 4, 2025 in Brandon Mississippi. She was born in Greenville, MS on August 1, 1942 to Thomas Walter Gorman and Lena Burnett Hyatt Gorman. She lived her childhood years in Leland, MS, and graduated from Leland High School in the class of 1960.

Alice earned her professional degree in nursing from the Matty Hersee School of nursing, and served her community as a nurse for over fifty years. During her career, she took care of patients at St. Dominic's Hospital, Mississippi Methodist Rehabilitation Center, and the clinics of the Mississippi State Department of Health. During the final years of her career, Alice was honored to serve as a surveyor of nursing homes for the Mississippi State Department of Health. During this time she investigated complaints and regulated facilities caring for the elderly and others in need of long term care - a cause that was close to her heart.

Alice had a passion for reading, and could often be found in her recliner with a good book and a dog in her lap. She loved American flags, and took comfort in noticing God's handiwork in the everyday - the beauty of nature, an uplifting song, or the creativity of her grandchildren.

Alice is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Burnett Gorman. She is survived by her brother Tommy Gorman (Linda) of Phoenix, AZ, sister Catherine Matthews (Jon) of Florence, MS, daughter Patricia Weaver (Jerry) of Terry, MS, son Jon Bass (Christy) of Brandon, MS, son Calvin of Clinton, MS, and daughter Lynda Gee of Richland, MS. Other survivors include her grandchildren Wesley Weaver, Julie Henderson, Chase Bass (Haley), Shelby Smithey (Jacob), Tyler Bass (Laina), Mack Little, Zack Little, and Abigail Gee, her great-grandchildren Taryn Kimbrough, Willow Bass, Tinsley Henderson, Hadley Bass, Barrett Bass and Piper Smithey, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Alice's life will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at Wright and Ferguson funeral home in Clinton, MS with visitation at 10:00 a.m. and service at 11:00 a.m. A private interment will follow at Stoneville-Leland Cemetery.
